 दहेज प्रथा का अर्थ

 प्राचीन काल में शादी के समय कन्या पक्ष की तरफ से अपनी कन्या की सुख सुविधाओं के लिए दिया गया धन एवं उपयोग की वस्तुओं को समाजशास्त्र में दहेज प्रथा के नाम से जाना जाता है प्राचीन काल में यह धन पुत्री का पिता अपनी स्वेच्छा से उसके विवाह में खर्च किया करता था इसे ही प्राचीन काल में   दहेज प्रथा कहते थे

दहेज का अर्थ सामान्य था उस राशि वस्तु या संपत्ति से लगाया जाता है जिससे कन्या पक्ष विभाग के अवसर पर  बर
 पक्ष को प्रदान करता है
